Iñigo Muguruza (guitar and singer, former musician in the Basque bands Kortatu, Negu Gorriak and Joxe Ripiau), Carlos Zubikoa (bass, earlier in Apurtu) and Gorka Baskaran (ex drummer in Gatazka and Be quiet) formed Sagarroi in 2001. They released their first album, entitled “Meatzaldea” (mining area in Basque), on that year and presented it all over the Basque Country, Madrid, Barcelona and such other European points as Switzerland, Zagreb, Belgrade... They even toured around Cuba. In 2003 they released “Euria ari duela” album in which the presence of the trombonist Asier Iutuarte (earlier in Eskandalo publiku) is felt. The sounds in this work include light and heat, moving away from the crude hardcore in “Meatzaldea” towards ska and Caribbean influences. “Toulouse” is the third album by the band. Anthony Quinn’s picture and the title of the recording on the sleeve remind us of the most plural cross-breeding, in terms of musical influences as well as lyrics, dealing with trips, diversity and so on.
